Falkland Islands launched the Big Salute Canoe Race across the local
water sports area, Gull Island Pond. A whole host of people from
different sections took part in the event, being told by the Chief
of Staff to be as dirty as possible! The fun started and people
really did get into the spirit of dirty tactics with Canoe barging
and oar slapping!
Fancy dress was also a must, and people really did get into the
spirt of things, with the guys from Log Support dressed in fetching
Toga's being the overall winners. Everybody really enjoyed themselves
and the day raised a substantial amount for the Big Salute.
The Big Salute Big Night
Out took place in the Gull & Penguin on a very busy Saturday
night in MPA. Firstly local Mount Pleasant band 'Bob's Dad &
Tyrone' took to the stage, wooing the crowd with their acoustic
covers of classic and modern music. The crowd loved it and it built
up the atmosphere for the main event; 'The Fighting Pig Band'.
The
Fighting Pig Band are a local set-up that normally play their gigs
at the 'Trough' in Stanley. However on this occasion, and specially
for the Big Salute, they gave their services for free and played
their first gig on MPA. Everybody had a wicked time, and there was
much drunken messy shapes being thrown on the dance floor!
